Oysterpalooza 2009… that’s all I need to say…

… but I am going to say more.

What a day of happy people eating fresh local oysters, drinking beer, listening to amazingly good local music, and dancing until they could dance no more. This is one of Arann’s big annual projects that he does in collaboration with the Rocker Oysterfeller’s team. The epic event is not without a lot of work and publicity (which brought more people out this year than ever before and brought some unexpected hurdles like figuring out where to park all those cars.) In the end people were patient and remembered the point of the occasion was to chill out, eat oysters, listen to talented musicians and have a good time, and I think the photos show the mission was accomplished.

It was a super fun day and I can’t wait for 2010. Maybe there will be t-shirts next year… just a suggestion… but who doesn’t want a t-shirt that says Oysterpalooza?

The Whole Rollei Story…

This is a continuation of Gina and Keith’s wedding (to see all of the series click here).

Since Gina had hired a photographer to document the day (so I could be a guest for the night) so I made an executive hurried decision… no digital only the Rollei.

I wanted to enjoy the night and not worry about photographing the whole time and I didn’t want to be the obnoxious guest that gets in the way of the hired photographer while he was trying to do his job. But the minute I left my canon in my room and joined Gina and her family as they were heading down in the elevator, I started to regret my decision. Because her photographer was not there and the scene was amazing… and the elevator, although really dark had great lights and mirrors everywhere… so I guessed the exposure on my Rollei, crossed my fingers, held it really really still and jumped in… and here’s the story of Gina and Keith’s wedding at the United Nations from the Rollei’s perspective…

And here’s one with me, just to prove I was indeed there and having lots of fun… thanks for the amazing wedding Gina and Keith!

My Inspiration….

I love this video. It makes me smile, cry, laugh and love people. If only all documentary projects had such power… and yet it is so so so simple. I would love to follow Matt Harding around with a camera on his next journey.

It is amazing. Please watch, you will like it, I promise.

A match.com success story and why I love weddings…

Jennifer and Steve met 5 months ago on match.com and last weekend I got to photograph their wedding story. I was a little nervous, because it had been over a year since I photographed a complete wedding, do to my year-off for grad school, but this wedding was the perfect reintroduction. Everyone was so happy, the location they picked had gorgeous light and wonderful shade from incredible oak trees and so I just got to play. And weddings are so good because they have everything…. stories, happy people who actually want to be photographed, emotions, products and lots of action, so photo possibilities are endless.
