…I would live on a street where all of my best friends lived in the houses around me…
…and we would get to do all of this…
… all of the time.
But until my wish comes true…
…I am so grateful for airplanes that bring me to my favorite people who live too far away…
…And guess I’ll settle for a perfect vacation instead.

As a “professional” photographer, it can get overwhelming photographing all the time… and sometimes the last thing you want to do is take photos during your free time because taking photos means editing photos and that means more time in front of the computer… but playing with your camera is the best way to keep photography fun. So this summer, I tried really hard to balance my computer editing time with my playing time… and what’s better than a cartwheel competition. Although another important lesson to remember as a photographer… put down the camera and do cartwheels too, or if you can take a photo while you cartwheel, that’s cool, I just haven’t figured out how to do that with the Rollei.
My two favorite chefs in the world… The World Famous Photographer, Art Rogers, and the Almost World Famous Musician and Entertainer, Arann Harris of The Bluebellies. The specialty of the night… Barbecued Pizza and more red wine than necessary…. the key to every woman’s heart.
Jude and I met yesterday and picked our top 15 photos to submit to the stock agency in order to hopefully get accepted and hopefully start getting paid for all the fun photo shoots we have been having. Don’t worry we only took one photo of crying baby, after her sister knocked her with the plastic fish and before mom picked her up. So no babies were mistreated in the making of this photo… but even crying she is still so cute.
It was hard to choose only 15, we have so many more that we love… so hopefully we will be admitted to the club and then we can put them all in. Thank you to all of our beautiful and wonderful models!!
Congratulations to our friends Susannah and Rich on making a super cute baby. Elena was born on May 16th and has been keeping them busy and entertained ever since. We invaded their get-away to the Bay this week and arrived just in time for chocolate cake, the sunset, and Elena’s 15 minutes of awake time before feeding and then going back to sleep…. we have good timing. This was our 15 minutes of Elena…

I am in the middle of a massive photo-edit. Maybe my biggest yet, and I find that I am having trouble focusing, because I want to see it all right away, but life is interrupting and my attention span is scattered, so I keep jumping around. But so far, here are my two most favorite photos from Claudia and Leigh’s wedding in Surrey, England on June 21st.
And once again, the Rolleiflex wins again. I have hundreds of digital photos, but none inspire or evoke emotion like the soft glow of the Rollei photos. So stay tuned… there will be lots more to come, this is only the beginning and the end… I still have the whole middle to go.
Photostiching brought to you by photoshop. I have discovered a whole new world tonight. I heard about photostiching, but I had no idea. I was preparing to throw together a rough composite of three photos, taken by my Rolleiflex, to make up the large group photo of everyone at Claudia and Leigh’s wedding, south of London in June. But with photostiching I just selected the photos I wanted, and 8 seconds later… I have this….(click the photo to enlarge)…
Amazing! Not really any seams, and it knew where I wanted to join the photos. Amazing. Thank you smart people at photoshop, I am a believer.
This is Gina. She was one of my first friends when I moved to SF and she is getting married in August. She currently lives in NY, but for her bachelorette party she decided to come Sonoma for a wine country weekend. Gina is one of the most positive and full of life people I have ever met. Life is always fun for Gina, so we wanted to plan a fun, Gina appropriate, weekend.
We did the whole wine tasting thing on Saturday and Gina wore her veil with plastic male body parts all day.

But we wanted something more…. something more memorable…. so as a surprise, we hired a burlesque dancer to come and teach us some moves (we thought it was a little more realistic than the pole dancing trend, seeing as not many of us have access to poles on a regular basis.) To help create the mood, the teacher wanted us in “appropriate clothing,” so we needed an excuse to tell Gina, why we had to dress up in boas, fishnets and slips.
Leave it to me, the photo obsessed, I decided the perfect solution would be to have a boudoir photo shoot beforehand, because Gina loves taking photos, and I thought she would enjoy getting to play. So we all bought her something fun to wear and we dressed her up. She pretended to protest a little, but eventually she gave in and had the Gina fun we were hoping for
The hardest part was getting everyone else to change into their sultry side. I would say this is a pretty conservative and modest group, so it took a little pushing and encouraging, but eventually everyone played along, got over their insecurities and we laughed a lot. And now everyone has a portrait as a souvenir of the weekend, which is an added bonus.

As a study in portraits… I love the comparison between these two. They are both so powerful and so different, even though the information in the photos is minimal… it is all about body language and eye contact. I am having fun with formal portraiture and I am slowly getting more comfortable at giving directions and slowing down…. yay for my Rolleiflex.
These are just some of my favorite photos from Suzi’s Birthday Party at Oak Hill Farm last weekend. Funny how I have reoccurring themes in my life… right now they seem to be grasslands, bathtubs, and Oak Hill Farm. And hopefully from now on, hula hoops will be a on the list. They make for great photos, they’re fun and I found out I wasn’t as bad at hula hooping as I thought.
Meet Rebecca and Kevin. They are my friends, in fact, they were the first two friends I made when I moved to California in 2001. One reason I like them is because when I say, “Let’s do a photo shoot,” they say, “OK, we’ll wear these hats.” And then we went to the thrift store….
and I bought this hat for $13. That was a good Thursday.
