Calling all Photograph(Fight)ers…

The Valley Fire could become one of the top 5 most destructive fires in our history; the toll on our region’s landscape and community is heartbreaking.

I was able to raise $3,150 in 24 hours for the Valley Fire relief efforts by offering free photo shoots in exchange for donations.

Think what we could raise if every photographer made the same offer in their community.

If you are a photographer who would like to help, here is the challenge offer:

FREE one hour digital photo shoots in (name of your town) to the first 10 people who donate ($$) or more to one of the following organizations that is raising money to support the relief efforts for the victims of the Lake County area fires.

There is no place like home… (free photo shoot offer at your home)

“No matter who you are or where you’re from, home means something to you. Homes serve as the backdrop for our childhood memories as well as the background of the interpersonal dramas in our lives. Our homes hold an iconic status as a place we can always belong. A place we can always be ourselves, let our guard down and still be loved. Home is a place you look forward to, a place where just being yourself is good enough,” Dr Robi Ludwig.

As of September 15th, 2015, Reuters is reporting that 584 homes have been destroyed by the Lake County fires.

While having your home burn down isn’t the end of the world, when your whole community (13,000 residents) and the land around it (more than 67,000 acres) burns down as well… I think it might feel pretty close to the end of your world.

It is certainly not something I ever hope to experience.

This being the first time I have lived so close to a crisis of this scale, it is so powerful and moving to see my community rally together to help the families who have lost everything and I want to do my part as well.

So I am offering FREE one hour digital photo shoots in Petaluma to the first 10 people who donate $250 or more to one of the following organizations that is raising money to support the relief efforts for the victims of the Lake County area fires (value $450.)

The Opera House…

If you ask me what kind of photography I like best… this photo shoot for The Opera House is my answer…

It was a tad bit crazy, thanks to the Petaluma winds and a slight miscalculation of how much time it would take to transfer an entire store of amazing props to a field.

But we managed to pull it off… And once the kids finally arrived, it was so fun to see them grab costumes and scatter into the fields and up the trees. I loved being able to turn in any direction and see kids having fun just being kids… the hardest part was deciding which cute kids to follow.

Farm Photo Workshop: Until Next Time

You work so hard planning and promoting an event, with fingers crossed that people will want to come. And when the day finally arrives and the people do come, you hold your breath hoping that everything goes smoothly and that the people will find what they came for.

So when the sun eventually slips down the sky, at the end of your long awaited day, and you step back and watch the people, who started the day as strangers, sitting close, sharing a meal, laughing about the day and dreaming aloud about the next time we can do this all again… it feels really, really good to finally exhale, sit down on the bench with them and raise a glass to next time.

HUGE thank you to the incredibly talented and extremely generous Farm Photo Workshop guest teachers: Sara Remington, Karen Shinto and Alysia Andriola. And equally HUGE thanks to all the FPW helpers: Jude Mooney, Laura Schneider, Alicia Deal, Carolyn Korch and Arann Harris. New Year’s Eve means that after all the celebrating is over…

We get to have a fresh start once again.

For some reason I am extra hopeful and excited about this year.

2010 was really good for me…

….but I want 2011 to be even better.

I want to be even better.

So I made a visual list, because I am a visual person, with some of my favorite photos from 2010…

…to remind myself of things that I need to do in 2011, in order to be a better: friend, wife, daughter, sister, photographer, human.

And here is that list…

In 2011, I, Paige Green, need to remember to do a lot more…..

(…ahem… this is not what you are thinking. This means I need to wear more slippers, of course.)

(…this one means I need go to the dentist more often.)

(…this means I need to learn how to cook.)

As I was putting in my own holiday print orders, I started thinking about what else I could give Arann that would be creative and inspiring.

So I decided to make a calendar, with the hopes that the best photos and memories of 2010 will inspire us to be even more creative and adventurous in 2011.

In my search for calendar making companies, I found this cool site that not only lets you make a calendar for yourself, but it also lets you share your calendar with other people too.

But because people generally like to have their calendars before the next year begins that means I need to share my creative surprise calendar for Arann now.

So my creative surprise for Arann is no longer a surprise, but at least maybe it can be a creative surprise for someone you love.

It just so happens that I ordered a couple of extras. And in the spirit of giving back, I would love to give away a calendar, as a thank you for reading my blog. I am always so completely shocked and amazed when people tell me they read my blog. And I get even more excited and inspired when people leave comments.

Remember the kisses that squished your cheeks and left slobbery marks that you had to wipe off…

The Artists meet the Alpacas…

Rebecca brought two of her Fibershed artists…

…and the black felt jacket they made together…

…to meet the alpacas who grew the wool for the jacket…

…and the ranchers who raised the alpacas for the wool.

I am not sure who enjoyed the meeting more…

…the alpacas…

…or the artists.

But I think everyone, including the dogs, can agree that it was another super fun Fibershed adventure.

We learned, and saw, so much more than we ever thought we would…

…including all of Rebecca’s cute new leggings.

In the second grade I learned how to spell dessert…

We were living in Korea and I was going to an American school.

I can’t remember my teacher’s name.

But I can remember the day when my teacher, whose name might have started with a G, was writing on the blackboard and explaining that a desert only has one “s.”

But a dessert has two, because you always want more dessert than desert.

She was right. I have always wanted more dessert than desert… or anything else really.

But today I learned that after spending all day photographing just five desserts, for the Town Hall cook book, eventually, even I did not want more dessert… well at least for a few hours. Knowing that I wasn’t permanently cured of my insatiable sweet tooth, I boxed up the leftovers and took them home, so I would be prepared when the cravings for more dessert returned.

Huge thanks to my very stylish and talented friend, Bridget, for making the day and process so much sweeter.
