Beauty…

gene-012209-610

I saw Genevieve last summer while she was working in a cafe near my house and I immediately wanted to photograph her, but I was too shy to ask.

Luckily, my stock photography partner, Jude, also noticed Genevieve when she visited the cafe and she was not shy about asking Genevieve if she would model for our stock photography business, and Genevieve agreed.

I finally got to meet and photograph Genevieve last Wednesday. The three of us went and played in the mud once the rain finally stopped.

It was so much fun to just play.

We played with dresses, with umbrellas, with rain coats, with movement, with cars, with braids, with facial expressions and with lots and lots of mud. Genevieve was such a beautiful model and so much fun…  we can’t wait until it rains again.

Jude and I are always looking for more people to play with us for our stock photography project, so if you would like to join in the fun then please let us know.

Fun Idea for a Bachelorette Party (pass it on)

This is Gina. She was one of my first friends when I moved to SF and she is getting married in August. She currently lives in NY, but for her bachelorette party she decided to come Sonoma for a wine country weekend. Gina is one of the most positive and full of life people I have ever met. Life is always fun for Gina, so we wanted to plan a fun, Gina appropriate, weekend.

We did the whole wine tasting thing on Saturday and Gina wore her veil with plastic male body parts all day.

But we wanted something more…. something more memorable…. so as a surprise, we hired a burlesque dancer to come and teach us some moves (we thought it was a little more realistic than the pole dancing trend, seeing as not many of us have access to poles on a regular basis.) To help create the mood, the teacher wanted us in “appropriate clothing,” so we needed an excuse to tell Gina, why we had to dress up in boas, fishnets and slips.

Leave it to me, the photo obsessed, I decided the perfect solution would be to have a boudoir photo shoot beforehand, because Gina loves taking photos, and I thought she would enjoy getting to play. So we all bought her something fun to wear and we dressed her up. She pretended to protest a little, but eventually she gave in and had the Gina fun we were hoping for

The hardest part was getting everyone else to change into their sultry side. I would say this is a pretty conservative and modest group, so it took a little pushing and encouraging, but eventually everyone played along, got over their insecurities and we laughed a lot. And now everyone has a portrait as a souvenir of the weekend, which is an added bonus.

So if you are trying to think of something fun for your friend’s next bachelorette party, let me know, paige green the boudoir photo shoot photographer extraordinaire, is willing to travel.

As a study in portraits… I love the comparison between these two. They are both so powerful and so different, even though the information in the photos is minimal… it is all about body language and eye contact. I am having fun with formal portraiture and I am slowly getting more comfortable at giving directions and slowing down…. yay for my Rolleiflex.

3 photographers playing in a photographer’s playground

Today was SO fun! Three photographers… Jude, Jessamyn and I decided to have a stock photography play date. We each picked a place, a theme for outfits, divided up the day and then we started shooting.

Jessamyn wanted a natural lifestyle photo shoot, so she picked a cafe where Jude and I laughed, talked and ate cupcakes (photo link soon to come.) Jude wanted a conceptual photo shoot, based around the green movement, so her shoot involved Jessamyn dressed head-to-toe in green clothes and playing in a green field.

And for my shoot, I chose complete and utter randomness: local salvage yard and sun-dresses.

There was no greater meaning or significance to my choice, other than I discovered this incredible place last week during my search for a bathtub, and I was completely amazed as I wandered through the 7 acres of rows and rows of forgotten metal ghosts.

The potential for fun was endless.

Luckily the owner was completely fine with us wandering and playing… his only rule was “no climbing” and that rule was only briefly bent, very slightly, once.

Funny enough, he didn’t tell us not to remove clothing, and the fabulous stack of bathtubs just happened to be tucked way far in the back of the 7 acres, so we were able to dive in deep when no one was looking. Yay for amazing and beautiful Jessamyn.

I have no idea if any of these photos are stock potential, but to be honest I can’t say that I care much if they are… I just loved the process so much and now I love the photos, so as far as I am concerned, the day was a fantastic success.
