Welcoming the Lucky Ox and a Gift for YOU…

Italia A Collection for Fibershed, model Dorine Euteneier and styling by Tessa Watson.

Dear Friends and Family,

What a year 2020 has been. For those who have lost loved ones during this year, I am deeply sorry for your loss and pain.

For those who have gotten sick, lost jobs, suffered from depression and isolation, experienced the emotional drain and trauma from the racial upheaval, were affected by wild fires, struggled with distance learning and juggling it all, I am also so, so sorry… it has been a lot.

My family certainly had our struggles, but thankfully we have been healthy and we have had the support of many, so I feel incredibly lucky and grateful.

‘Almost Nine’ was selected by Franklin Tipton for a Personal Choice award in the 2020 SF Something Personal Exhibition.

This year could not have worked without the support of our essential worker, my mom. She was our distance learning teacher for both boys and she gave Arann and I the gift of time together.

This year also could not have worked without the financial support of my brother, who sent us stimulus checks when we didn’t get any from the government. Arann essentially lost all income since Farm Camp and Animal Music were shut down and he was never able to receive unemployment.

I was lucky to continue to work (turns out photography works pretty well with covid: 6 feet away, outside and with a mask), and I will be forever grateful to Stemple Creek Ranch, Acre Pizza, FEED Sonoma, Fibershed, Made Local and Marietta Winery for keeping me working when all other work stopped.

As a thank you to all of those who have supported me over the years, I am offering you FREE downloads of all of your photos. Send me an email and I’ll send you a link to download your photos as they are in the galleries. If you want any photos edited, there will be additional costs for the editing time.

And for all past clients, if you book a photo shoot with me in 2021 I will give you a $100 discount. For all new clients, I will give you a $50 discount. Just reference this post when you get in touch to book your photo shoot.

And finally, I know there are some folks who have made donations to fundraisers I’ve done in the past but who have not booked a photo shoot with me yet. If I owe you a photo shoot, please let me know so we can get your photo shoot booked in the new year.

Phew. I think that’s it. Thank you all so much. I am glad to have weathered this year with your love and support and I look forward to welcoming the year of the Ox…

According to the Chinese zodiac, 2021 is the year of the Ox. This year is going to be lucky and also perfect to focus on relationships, whether we are talking about friendships or love.

This year, no explosive or catastrophic events will occur, so it is a favorable year for economic recovery or consolidation, a year of long-term investments (especially for creating a reserve stock for the coming unproductive years).

The Metal Ox year is also great for making order in the family life. After all, if the family life is peaceful, everything gets solved!

Opera Singing Flowers (sneak peek…)

Juilliard trained opera singer and florist, Betany Coffland, often uses music as inspiration in her floral creations. Her business, Chloris Floral exclusively uses local and seasonal flowers grown with organic practices. For our photo shoot, Betany wanted to create photo stories for two special operas. Here is how that happened…

Her email:

The first bouquet will be inspired by “Ah Chloris” by Reynaldo Hahn, the piece that inspired the name Chloris Floral. Completely romantic, rich and full. Here’s me singing the song with guitar:

Her email:

The second bouquet will be inspired by Pierrot Lunaire- it’s piece I’m performing this week. Themes are puppets, commedia dell’arte, moon inspiration. I want to be elegant here and not so literal, but still a bit off kilter. Here’s a link to the crazy music:

It feels like magic when a group of people come together for the first time, share their talents and create art. We are so in love with the results and we’re ready to do more. Thank you to the incredibly talented team:

Floral Designer/Opera Singer: Betany Coffland of Chloris Floral

Stylist: Alysia Andriola of Grace and Gather

Chloris Model: Vero Kherian of Miss Cheesemonger

Pierrot Model: Alexa Eisner of Babachic

Assistant: Laura Schneider

And thank you to the local flower farmers who sustainably grew these gorgeous opera singing flowers.

Well, it’s that time of year again…paigegreen2014paigegreenAOCSF082014-017-1

Meaning it’s time to dig through the memories of last year…

Pull out the highlights…

And make big plans for the coming year…

Thing is, I have been chasing big plans for the past 15 years…

Finding a job turned into building a career…

But instead of searching for the next big thing…

I would rather slow life down…

And celebrate how amazing things are right now…

Because the most important lesson I learned from 2014…

paigegreen2014000059570006

Is that life does not always go as you planned…

And it all can change so fast without any warning

Once in a Lifetime.

paigegreen2014544A7025

So Happy 2015 (five days late.) Here is to a year of no big plans.

In my perfect world…

…I would live on a street where all of my best friends lived in the houses around me…

…and we would get to do all of this…

… all of the time.

But until my wish comes true…

…I am so grateful for airplanes that bring me to my favorite people who live too far away…

…And guess I’ll settle for a perfect vacation instead.

Thank you Nici, Andy, Margot, Ruby, Alice, Olive and my favorite black cat, Sam. We had an amazing adventure and we can not wait to do it again soon.

My Best Tip-Toe Forward…

Last week I received a phone call from a well-known company asking to see my portfolio. They wanted to see still life, food and some people (because they don’t usually do much photography of people.)

While that phone call was very exciting, the problem was that no one had ever asked me to send in an actual printed portfolio before… so I didn’t have a portfolio to send.

Inspired, I started enthusiastically dragging out the hard drives and digging though the archives. Eventually I came up with a portfolio containing my most favorite 137 photos.

Luckily my talented graphic designer and trusty adviser, Tyler Young, said 137 photos might be a tad too many. So reluctantly, I whittled the portfolio down and here it is… my best (abridged) attempt to tip-toe further into the commercial world of still-life and food… with just a few people.

The New Year is here… and so are my Resolutions…

New Year’s Eve means that after all the celebrating is over…

We get to have a fresh start once again.

For some reason I am extra hopeful and excited about this year.

2010 was really good for me…

….but I want 2011 to be even better.

I want to be even better.

So I made a visual list, because I am a visual person, with some of my favorite photos from 2010…

…to remind myself of things that I need to do in 2011, in order to be a better: friend, wife, daughter, sister, photographer, human.

And here is that list…

In 2011, I, Paige Green, need to remember to do a lot more…..

(…ahem… this is not what you are thinking. This means I need to wear more slippers, of course.)

(…this one means I need go to the dentist more often.)

(…this means I need to learn how to cook.)

Happy New Year.

Don’t look now, but 2011 is rapidly approaching… (and a giveaway lies below)

As I was putting in my own holiday print orders, I started thinking about what else I could give Arann that would be creative and inspiring.

So I decided to make a calendar, with the hopes that the best photos and memories of 2010 will inspire us to be even more creative and adventurous in 2011.

In my search for calendar making companies, I found this cool site that not only lets you make a calendar for yourself, but it also lets you share your calendar with other people too.

But because people generally like to have their calendars before the next year begins that means I need to share my creative surprise calendar for Arann now.

So my creative surprise for Arann is no longer a surprise, but at least maybe it can be a creative surprise for someone you love.

It just so happens that I ordered a couple of extras. And in the spirit of giving back, I would love to give away a calendar, as a thank you for reading my blog. I am always so completely shocked and amazed when people tell me they read my blog. And I get even more excited and inspired when people leave comments.

So if you would like your very own copy of ‘The Best of 2010 Just in Time to Inspire Us in 2011’ calendar, please leave a comment below by midnight on December 24th.

I will announce the winner on Christmas Day.

If you are not a gambling person, or you’re like me and you hate waiting, you can order your own copy right now just click here to go directly to the store.

This is film (and my summer)…

I love film and I love summer.

And I couldn’t live without either one.

Well, maybe I could.

But life would be a lot less interesting and a lot less fun.

The only problem is that they are both so very time-consuming.

This summer was so busy that it seemed not to exist at all.

But I know it did because I have the film to prove it.

Even with the endlessly long summer days,

It seemed there still was never enough time…

To stop.

Or even pause and devote the time that film selfishly demanded.

So it sat neglected.

Piling up on my desk.

Waiting in the sidelines, as digital got all the glory.

Waiting for the grand finale.

And finally, here, the first day of October, it is.

A few of the summer film highlights, all at once.

Like cliffs notes.

Or the final minutes of a firework show.

But I still have high hopes of devoting a full post to each of these amazing occasions, faces, relationships.

I have even started the spinning the narratives in my head.

But time is running out.

As it is known to do.

And so this will have to do for now.

This showcase of why I love film and why I hope you will too.

Besides the obvious yet unpredictable beauty of film,

I also love its more discreet yet unfaltering faithfulness.

I feel comforted knowing that if disaster struck, and all my hard drives suddenly crashed tomorrow,

My film would still be there, sitting in a pile on my desk.

Waiting patiently in line to be filed away.

And talking excitedly about the summer that really did exist.

It’s Our Arloversary….

One year ago today we started our love affair with this ridiculously wonderful creature….

We met Arlo, formerly known as Johnny, through an internet dating service called…

Adopt A Pet.

It was the best (and only) internet dating experience I have ever had and I completely recommend it to anyone who is looking for unconditional love.

One final After School Special: Arlo was saved from a shelter by a group who picks up dogs who are about to be euthanized. He is such an amazing dog that I can hardly believe our luck that he was rescued. If you are thinking about getting a dog, please think about adopting from a shelter near you. There are lots and lots of amazing dogs, just like Arlo, who need a good home.

Photo of the Day…

I have just started a new “Photo of the Day” gallery on my Paige Green Photography facebook page. It is a quick and easy way for me to share my favorite new photos, without having to make a full blog post. So if you want to see the latest and the greatest… click here.

These are the The Mauritius Island twins, who I met while second shooting a wedding, with my friend Jessamyn Harris, at Kunde Winery in Sonoma. More photos coming soon.

I love these twins.
