• After spending the month of November buying a house, remodeling, moving, photographing families and sending out photos for other people’s Christmas presents… it was time for me to think about my own Christmas presents.

But I was feeling unmotivated, broke and out of time (we only had 18 days in our new home before our annual Christmas pilgrimage to Carbondale, Illinois.)

But there is no place under my Grandfather’s Christmas tree for excuses.

My Grandfather purchased and wrapped 100 gifts this year, so I had to get my act together quickly.

Luckily my family likes my photos, so often times prints become my default gift. But this year I wanted to be more creative.

And then it occurred to me… my mom gave me a baby book after Harper was born, which she very sweetly (and repetitively) encouraged me to use, reminding me that these days go so fast and that if I don’t write these memories down I will forget.

But the baby book, although super cute and exactly the one I chose, was not inspiring me. Every time I sat down to work on it I would get stuck on family history I didn’t know or on an irrelevant question that I didn’t care about.

And the thought of making one more scrapbook (I was a scrapbooking fool in high school, before scrapbooking was a verb) that would fall apart in 10 years… did not appeal to me.

So I decided to make my own baby book that I would give to our parents and to Arann. Several 4:30am nights and 240 pages later, here it is…

Watching my mom and Arann open their copies and flip through the pages on Christmas was the best present ever.

  • This was the third year in a row that I photographed Jasmine and her parents

…which, I learned, makes for a very comfortable and very action-packed photo shoot.

No warm-up time necessary this year, Little Miss Jasmine was ready to go…

And so was I… after spending 72 continuous hours working on getting our new house ready for us to move in to it this week! It is totally chaotic and insane what we are trying to do in such a short amount of time… so this one hour photo shoot, in this perfect location (which happens to be conveniently in my new backyard,) with these ready and willing models… was exactly the boost I needed tonight to keep me going.
And hopefully the next blog post I write will be from my desk, in my new office, in our very own house! Eeeeeeeeeee….. wish us luck!

  • I may photograph food, products, events, and flowers… but for me, it is all about the people. So I get excited when family portrait season comes around and families invite me in to their homes for an hour, or even better, for an afternoon, and I get to play…

I enjoy it so much that every time I am at a family photo shoot I usually have to remind myself that it is time to put down the camera and go home. And when I do eventually leave, I feel honored to have been invited in to the homes of these families and to document what their lives are like at this moment… and I can’t believe that I am lucky enough to call this my job.

  • one year ago…

    …one year later.

one year ago: two people (and a dog) full to the brim with nervous anticipation from the mountain of, ‘what if’s,’ and, ‘what next’s,’ and, ‘how in the world’s?’

one year later: three people (and a dog) chuckling comfortably as if we knew what we were doing all along.

And that is the beauty of one year.

Happy First Birthday, Harper Albi Harris. I wish I had the time to write all the feelings, emotions and lessons I have learned with and because of you over this past year. But you are sleeping… and if I learned anything this past year, it is that when you are sleeping I need to be sleeping too.

The blog will be back again someday (hopefully soon.) I have been storing up a lot of good material. But to be honest, it has been nice to take a break from blogging and to be present during this one very short and very full year.

  • It is “almost time to celebrate” because finally my new website is up!

But it is “not quite” time to celebrate because in the process of moving everything I messed up my email… opps.

So… this is not quite the grand opening I was hoping for… instead this is more like the dress rehearsal.

But while I am still working out the kinks, I would love to hear any feedback… especially what you think about the navigation and loading speed. And in the meantime, if you are trying to email me please use this email: paigegreenphoto@gmail.com

Hopefully, I will get the email worked out soon… and then the new blog up… and then the iPad version… and then… and then…. and then…

I guess the lesson I need to learn is that just like every highway, there is always something that needs updating and repair.

And if we waited for everything to be perfect then we would never get to celebrate. So it seems that now is as good a time as any time to celebrate… so Ta-Dah…. here is what I have mulling over, and over, and over for the past three months….

    http://paigegreen.com/

(Notice the fancy new address? I am very excited about that. But paigegreenphotography.com should still work too.)

I want to send a huge thank you to: Thomas Ball, Morgan Bellinger, Claudia Leisinger, Nicole Rejwan, Jude Mooney, Matteo Borzone, Hubert Kang, Tyler Young and, of course, Arann Harris for all of the feedback, encouragement and support.

Thank you to all of the amazing people I have photographed and who are on this new site. And thank you to all of the people who read my blog.

This website feels like a huge group project and that is definitely something to celebrate.

  • It has been awhile since my last post, so I thought I’d at least share what we are working on…

In addition to learning how to grab our toes, roll-over, fly, drool, and laugh… we are also working on my new website.

Because now that we have this parenting thing figured out (as demonstrated in photo above)…

…it is time to get back to work again. New website link coming soon.

  • To show my love and gratitude for all of the encouragement and support I have received from everyone, I am giving away a copy of my first cook book. Leave a message on my Paige Green Photography page by Friday and I’ll randomly select a winner. Thank you!
  • So far my first three photo shoots this year have been head shots… which is way more exciting for me than for the person I am photographing.

Typically I get some pretty big groans and grumbles and usually the common expression, “I hate having my photo taken,” comes out.

And I say, “Yes, me too, and so do most people over the age of 10.”

But then we talk about other things… favorite foods, best vacations, what crazy things their kids said this morning, and before they know it we are all done.

And that’s when I hear, “Well, that wasn’t so bad after-all.”

  • This was Elizabeth on day one of her chemotherapy treatment for breast cancer…

    This is what happened next…

Eight months later, Elizabeth is doing great. She is more beautiful than ever and her positive attitude is inspiring… but her trip through cancer is not over yet.

  • I am excited to kick off a creative new year with a group photography show at Toby’s Feed Barn in Point Reyes Station…

Each photographer was asked to pay “homage” to something and I chose to pay “homage” to the amazing women I have been lucky to photograph.

We would love for you to come celebrate with us this Sunday….

I want to send a special thank you to: Michael for bringing us all together, Jude for hanging my photographs while my family and I were crossing the country, Mary and Nicole Fassbinder for the amazing frames, Sean at Light Waves for facillitating the printing, Tyler for the awesome postcard, and Arann for everything else.

    Thank you,
