  • A Photographer’s Wedding…

    August 4, 2011

Klea and Dave got married at the Westerbeke Ranch in Sonoma on July 23, 2011.

Klea and Dave’s wedding may have been one of the easiest and one of the hardest weddings that I have ever photographed.

It was one of the easiest weddings that I have photographed because Klea is also a photographer so she knew how to create a beautiful wedding… She picked a photogenic location with amazing light and carefully planned all of the details.

It was one of the hardest weddings because Klea is also a photographer so naturally she has high expectations of the photographs of her own wedding. With Klea’s high expectations weighing heavily on my mind, I may have been a bit more nervous than I normally am before I photograph a wedding. But I had to remind myself that she hired me for a reason and that my job was to stay calm and to do what I always do… except with more film. Because like every good photographer, Klea loves film and she wanted me to document each part of the day with my film camera as well as with my digital camera.

So to make sure I had every moment covered, I hired Annika Erickson, another talented photographer, to be the second photographer… and here is our story of Klea and Dave’s wedding...

See if you can tell which photographs are digital and which photographs are film…

Congratulations, Klea and Dave, and thank you for trusting me to document your very photogenic and love-filled day.

  • It all started at Bay to Breakers…

    July 7, 2011

Four years ago Lauren and Jordan met in the chaos of San Francisco’s infamous Bay to Breakers.

And now, four Bay to Breaker anniversaries later, they are married…

…with a little man on the way.

Congratulations, Lauren and Jordan. I look forward to hearing how your San Francisco love story continues.

  • In my perfect world…

    June 30, 2011

…I would live on a street where all of my best friends lived in the houses around me…

…and we would get to do all of this…

    … all of the time.

But until my wish comes true…

…I am so grateful for airplanes that bring me to my favorite people who live too far away…

…And guess I’ll settle for a perfect vacation instead.

Thank you Nici, Andy, Margot, Ruby, Alice, Olive and my favorite black cat, Sam. We had an amazing adventure and we can not wait to do it again soon.

  • Green Gala Goddesses…

    June 19, 2011

The University of California Botanical Gardens at Berkeley had their Green Gala Fundraiser today. The highlight of the event was definitely the fashion show of sustainable and local designs held in their stunning Redwood Grove Amphitheater. The eco-chic designers used inspiration directly from the Garden’s uniquely biodiverse plant collection to create two original designs that feature natural fibers and plant-based dyes.

The UC Botanical Gardens are a wonderful Bay Area resource, so I was happy to come and support their event. But really who doesn’t love running around in the redwoods photographing beautiful women in amazing clothes? To see more photos of the event click here.

My only regret is that I didn’t have more time to play. Because as it turns out, I think I am secretly falling in love with fashion photography… well, maybe not all fashion photography, but at least local sustainable fashion photography.

So if you are a local designer and you want your fashion photographed… I am inspired and ready to play.

  • Day One is Today…

    June 8, 2011

    This is Elizabeth.

Last month Elizabeth found out that she has advanced breast cancer.

At 10:30am this morning Elizabeth received her first treatment of chemotherapy.

Today, she said, she felt sad.

But she says, this is not war, this is just something that happened and she will live through this.

    Because with a six-year old daughter and a three-year old son…

…she has a whole lot to live for.

And just 3 hours after her first treatment ended, I met Elizabeth and her family in their favorite local spot, to document who they are today… because from today on, every day is a very important day.

Thank you, Elizabeth, for sharing your day with me. I am so grateful.

  • We Need You (and all of your friends)…

    May 21, 2011

To put on something fun… something with stars, or stripes… something plaid or something plain…

To bring something fun… your dog, a hula hoop, a bicycle, roller skates, or a fist full of balloons…

And to eat some local, organic, seriously good, ice cream in front of a camera…

Today, Saturday May 21th, at the Bi-Rite Creamery on 18th Street in SF, between 2-8 pm.

Hope to see you (and all of your friends) there.

  • One of the Perks…

    May 17, 2011

…of working on an ice cream cook book…

…is that I get to eat ice cream and other yummy treats all day long.

We just successfully completed day four of photographing for the Bi-Rite Creamery cook book. I am so grateful to be working on this awesome project with such fun and talented people. And I want to send a special ‘thank you’ to Sachi Henrietta for sharing her amazing sense of style with us.

If you want a chance to be photographed with your favorite flavor of Bi-Rite ice cream, we will be photographing at the creamery on Friday and Saturday and we need volunteers to come and eat ice cream. Remember to wear ice cream complimentary clothes, without logos or distracting writing, and you and your favorite scoop may just end up in the book.
